Behind The Scenes: Photographing a Textured Chocolate Bar

I’m a huge fan of dark chocolates. I wouldn’t say I have extremely developed taste buds to be able to tell the subtle differences in flavours of the beans.

However, for these craft chocolate, almost every single bar tasted unique. (not sponsored – I wish it was. I could do with more chocolate in my belly).

Some bars had a fruity after taste, but the chocolate was made with ONLY cocoa beans and sugar. It is pretty crazy!

Anyway, my goal today was to show the Behind The Scenes of this shot. I knew I wanted to show off the ridged texture of the chocolate. So I chose to have backlighting. Getting your light in the right angle is key to show off the texture!

I also used a couple of boxes and cardboard to help direct the light.
